Maurice “Mo” Evans, is a retired NBA Veteran having played professionally from 2001- 12. He is a proud father of two beautiful children, Reese and Roman Evans. Evans is a gifted and passionate entrepreneur who is a principle in the Evans Group, a holding company comprised of a portfolio of nine different businesses. In addition to his entrepreneurial prowess he is a passionate believer in Jesus Christ, a speaker, author, and corporate strategist. Maurice has learned there is power in numbers and he has assembled a dynamic life team with significant and relevant relationships and the ability to execute in multiple verticals of life.
Maurice is a member of the Kansas High School Hall of Fame. He was two-time basketball player of the year in 96 and 97 as well as a state champion in 96. He played his college ball at Wichita State where he is one of only three players in school history to have scored one thousand points in their first two seasons. He finished Top Ten in the NCAA in scoring as a sophomore season along with earning All Missouri Valley Conference Honors. While at Wichita State, he was also a member of the Dean’s List where he held a 3.85 GPA. Maurice transferred to the University of Texas where he was named to the BIG 12 All Newcomer Team while also leading his team in scoring, steals, three-point percentage and most importantly, a then record 25 wins and a 2001 NCAA Tournament birth. He continued to place emphasis on his academic achievement as her earned honors as student during his tenure as UT. Though he declared for the NBA draft after his junior year, in 2011 he returned to UT to earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education.
Despite not being drafted, he credits God’s favor and grace for having signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves and sparking a productive eleven- year career. Career highlights include: he was a member of the 2005 Detroit Piston team to play in the Eastern Conference finals and earn a franchise best 64-18 regular season record. He was a two-time All-Star for both years he played in Europe (Olympiakos and Benetton). In 2003, while playing for Benetton he earned Eurobasket Player of the Year, he also earned Eurobasket MVP of the All Star game, and his team won the 2003 Coppa Italia Championship.
Not only did Mo have a productive career on the court, he also served 4 years as the Executive Vice President for the Player’s Association. There he gained invaluable experience as a key member of the NBPA team that successfully negotiated the 2010- 2011 NBA Labor dispute. Evans was the only player to attend every negotiation session.
He also helped create and participated in a number of programs still such as the NBA Business of Basketball Leadership and Development Program, The Mentorship Program, NBPA Top 100 Coaching Program, He also personally hosted BBVA Bank at the 2012 All Star game on behalf of the NBA.
Mo is excited to share is his experience and love for Christ with others in an effort to positively impact those in his sphere of influence. Evans believes you must take a holistic approach to life in order to achieve sustainable success; he reinforces this message in his book, Every Level Of Success.
